Back to School Ideas

The kids are out of the house and at school. This might seem like the time for you to relax and take a break from all the disagreements and hectic daily life of summer vacation. However, there are other things that you need to do as you have just as much homework as the kids have. You have to figure out what to feed your kids when they get home from school because it seems like they are hungrier during this time of the year.

Make healthy snacks that they will enjoy when they come home. A fun idea is to put a few vegetable sticks or fruit slices in a sandwich bag with a cup of yogurt and a juice box. Put these bags in a drawer in the refrigerator so that they are available when your kids get home. When kids pack their lunch, it can save you money that would be spent on meals at school. Use small plastic containers that fit in the refrigerator to store small bags of things that they can put in their lunchbox. Examples would include sandwiches that are already made, bags with fruit cups and fresh fruits and bags that have chips and treats.

Your kids might trickle inside the house at different hours every day because of sports and other activities after school. Prepare meals that are healthy and simple that they will enjoy. Any kind of soup is a good idea along with a grilled cheese sandwich. Make the crock pot your best friend because you can put something in it in the morning and let it cook all day so that supper is ready when everyone gets home.
